You will be spending the next 10 days exploring the beautiful Everest region. And experiencing the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Himalayan people. The majority of people living here belong to the Sherpa community.

Tengboche Monastery is the highest point of this trek. It is an ancient gompa giving out the view of many spectacular peaks on its backdrop. The beautiful forest paths with fantastic scenarios will blow your mind.

This trek is a moderate level climb, so it is suitable for any level trekkers. But the routes might be challenging for beginners, as they don’t have many walking habits.

Best Time to Visit Tengboche Trek

Tengboche trek can be done at any time of the year. But trekkers prefer Spring and Autumn, the best time to visit Tengboche Trek. These are the peak seasons of the year.

During these seasons, the routes are full of trekkers from all around the world. The beauty of nature is at its peak attracting more travelers in this region. Weather and temperature are also favorable during these times.

The skies are clear, bright, and sunny giving the best view of the peaks, valleys, and landscapes. Also, the temperature is moderate neither too hot nor too cold. The months from March to May and September to November is a perfect time for this trek.

Tengboche Trek Itinerary

Your flight to Kathmandu will be a beautiful one as you get to view the magnificent Himalayas and terraced valley from above. Our representative will be waiting for you at the terminal before your arrival. As you head out, you will be welcomed traditionally with beautiful garlands and namaste. Then the respective representative will pick you up and take you to your hotel. And after helping you check in to your rooms, they will leave for the day. The rest of the day is unplanned, so you take a rest after the tiring flight. Or head out to roam the beautiful and busy city. You can visit local markets around you or a popular destination near you. The city is dusty and crowded with people and vehicles during day time. So don’t forget to wear a mask and be careful while crossing roads. After a delightful day, you head back to your hotel where you stay for the night.
Today you will go sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley. But as a day is not enough to visit all places we have listed some famous sites for this day. You will be visiting the UNESCO Heritage sites situated in Kathmandu valley. This day when you wake up early, your first destination will be Pashupatinath Temple. This temple is holy grounds for the Hindu religion as Lord Shiva resides here. From here, you head towards Boudhanath, which is half an hour away. This place is holy grounds for the Buddhist religion. Roaming around this place gives a warm and peaceful sensation. Then you head towards Swayambhunath, another holy shrine for the Buddhist followers. This temple is also known as Monkey Temple, residing on top of a hill. You get the stunning view of the valley from here. After that, you head towards Basantapur Durbar Square. One of the three durbar squares of the valley. This place was once home to the kings and queens. However, now it is a popular attraction site for visitors. You then move towards Patan Durbar Square, located in the Lalitpur District. This durbar square is about one and a half hours away from the capital. Krishna Mandir is the primary attraction site of this square. After an exciting time exploring the heritage sites, you head back to your hotel. If you still have energy left, you can visit Thamel, the most happening place in the town. Note: There will be massive traffic jams during the morning and evening time. So you might reach your destination late then the anticipated time.

Waking up early, you have your breakfast and get ready to start your journey. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and head towards the airport from there. Most flights to Lukla are done during the mornings due to weather conditions. After arriving at the airport, you board your plane and fasten your seat belt for an adventurous ride. Flying high above the beautiful valleys, you see many magnificent peaks out your window. Viewing them, you reach Lukla, well-known for its thrilling flights. The experience of landing on the narrow runway will be quite stimulating. Reaching Lukla, your trekking journey begins as you head towards Phakding. As you leave the beautiful town, you head towards Chaurikharka village, which is quite an easy walk. Then you descend towards the Dudhkoshi River and follow the trails on the banks of the river. You will encounter many fellow trekkers and yaks on your way. Walking on the path for some time, you reach Phakding. This day’s walk is not very demanding and harsh. You stay here for the night.
Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours Trek Distance: 7.4 km Maximum Altitude: 3440 m above sea level This day you will be heading towards Namche Bazaar from Phakding. After having a healthy breakfast, you head out, leaving the beautiful town behind. Today you will be crossing many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. Making a steep and steady climb, you begin your trek. Then following the trails on the banks of Dudh Koshi River, you cross a suspension bridge over it. As you walk further on the trails, you enter the beautiful Sagarmatha National Park. You have to submit your permit and register it in the checkpoint to continue your trek. After all the procedures, you move ahead on these trails. The path starts to get challenging from here. Doing a steep climb, you enter a dense forest home to some of the endangered animals and plants. Walking in this beautiful path, you arrive at Namche Bazaar. This charming town is the gateway to the “Everest region.” You stay here for the night.
After a marvelous journey till Namche, you acclimatize in this charming town of the Sherpa People. The fifth day of this trek is your rest day,so feel free to sleep till late today. This town lies between two ridges of the magnificent peaks of the Khumbu region. During your free day, you can visit various attractions in this town, such as Khunde Hospital established by Sir Edmund Hillary, Sherpa Culture Museum. Or visit the Everest View Hotel, which is an hour’s hike. You get the view of many magnificent peaks from up here. Such as Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc. Namche is the central hub of the Khumbu region and a famous stop for trekkers. This town has many lodges, restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafes offering wifi. You can roam around the village and explore the areas.
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours Trek Distance: 9.2 km Maximum Altitude: 3867 m above sea level Today you will be traveling to Tengboche, the highlight of this trek. After a delicious breakfast, you head out Namche and follow the routes on the side of the valley. As you look below, you can see the Dudh Koshi River flowing beautifully. Walking the trails, you get your first glance over the mesmerizing peaks of the Everest region. Moving ahead on the trails, you will pass many small settlements and tea houses this day. Then making a steep descent, you cross a suspension bridge over the river and arrive at Phunki Tenga. This village is a rest stop before doing a steep uphill climb towards Tengboche. You will have your lunch in this place. Gaining some energy, you begin your walk. The paths are curved, so; it might be tiring. However, the beautiful scenarios of the peaks and landscapes will make up for it. Continuing your journey, you enter a beautiful forest of Rhododendron and colorful birds and animals. Viewing these scenarios, you arrive at Tengboche, famous for hosting the largest Gompa of the Khumbu region. Tengboche Monastery is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist gompa established in 1923. Trekkers stop here and visit the monastery to pray for a prosperous journey to the Himalayas. Also, the stunning view of the spectacular peaks in the backdrop of the monastery will awe-struck you. You stay the night here, so explore the beautiful village and learn more about it.
Trek Duration: 8 to 9 hours Trek Distance: 16.4 km Maximum Altitude: 2835 m above sea level Today you head towards Monjo from Tengboche, which is the longest route of this trek. Waking up early, you will visit the monastery for the morning prayer. Then returning, you have your breakfast and head out to this day’s destination. Descending on the trails viewing the beautiful scenarios, you begin this day journey. Walking through beautiful forests and crossing suspension bridges, you reach Namche. You will have your lunch at Namche and if you have any last-minute shopping to do, you can do it as well. After eating the tasty delicacy, you descend on the trail heading to Monjo. Descending steeply in the trails, you walk along the Dudh Koshi River. And cross the river to Jorsale and walk ahead in the paths to arrive at Monjo. This place is a popular stop point for trekkers when trekking in the Everest region. You stay here for the night.
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours Trek Distance: 9.5 km Maximum Altitude: 2860 m above sea level Today is the last day in the Khumbu district as you head back to Lukla from Monjo. Walking along the banks of Dudh Koshi river, you reach Ghat. You have your lunch here. Then moving ahead, you pass through several villages like Phakding, Benkar, Chuthawa, etc. On this trail, you will be viewing many incredible scenarios of landscapes and peaks. Passing these villages, you reach the Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, where your trekking journey ends. Today’s trek is an easy one. You will be taking many downhill walks before doing one last steep climb in the route. During your stay in Lukla, you can roam around the valley and visit shops, cafes, and bars there. You stay in one of the lodges here.
